UPDATE: Victim of Kahului Traffic Accident Identified

The Maui Police Department has identified the male victim of Monday night’s traffic fatality as 48-year-old John William Myers.

The Maui Police Department reports a traffic fatality that occurred late Monday night.

At about 11:07 p.m., a gray 2014 Ford Focus sedan was reportedly traveling in the inner northbound lane on Ka`ahumanu Avenue just past the intersection of Kane Avenue in Kahului when it struck a pedestrian that was riding an electric skateboard in the same lane of travel.

The pedestrian was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities say he has yet to be identified.

The operator of the Ford Focus, a 19-year-old male from Wailuku, was not injured.

Police say the involvement of speed, drugs and alcohol are unknown at this time as the investigation is on-going.

This is Maui County’s 16th traffic fatality of 2018 as compared to 13 this same time last year.
